Louisiana Moves Towards Increased In-State Ethanol and Biodiesel Use and Production
On June 12, Louisiana Governor Blano signed HB 685 into law. The bill mandates the sale of ethanol and biodiesel throughout the state, requiring ethanol fuel to make up two percent by volume of the gasoline sold. E85 Now Legal for Retail Sale in Florida
The ethanol-gasoline blend E85 is now legal for retail sale in the State of Florida . Up until now strict fuel regulations had prohibited the sale of E85 to the public. Currently there are only two federal E85 sites in Florida , but more than 400,000 flex-fuel vehicles on the roads. Groups like the National Ethanol Vehicle Association (NEVC) and First Coast Biofuels plan to work with vendors to place E85 on the public market quickly.

MTBE is now banned in nineteen of the fifty United States, and several more states have pending legislation to ban it.
The annual demand for ethanol in the United States has doubled over the last four years to a projected 4.5 billion gallons in 2006. The National Energy Policy Act of 2005 (H.R. 6) passed by Congress will increase ethanol use even further by mandating that a minimum of 7.5 billion gallons of ethanol. The comprehensive energy legislation includes a nationwide renewable fuels standard (RFS) that will double the use of ethanol and biodiesel by 2012.
The Federal Ethanol Program Gasoline marketers (not ethanol producers) can claim the federal ethanol tax incentive. It is designed to encourage gasoline marketers and blenders to utilize ethanol, thereby increasing demand for ethanol and enhancing energy security.
U.S. Ethanol Demands Increase U.S. ethanol supplies continued to increase in the month of April, immediately prior to oil refiners’ voluntary elimination of MTBE.
